Volunteer Requests for the Upcoming Summer Swim Season

Hello everyone!

As crazy as it seems, the summer swim team is right around the corner. As you know, our parent volunteers make this team possible. We have a few open positions we need to fill. Please look through the available positions and let me know if you are interested in helping. Most of these positions will fulfill your family's volunteer requirements.

Meet Manager- Do you enjoy working with technology? Do you like having a front-row seat to the pool while sitting in the shade? We are looking for a new Meet Manager. Your job would be to run the meet through the Meet Maestro platform. You will ensure the swimmers' times are registering in the system, disqualifications are entered, and the meet is running smoothly. There is a training on May 13th at 6:00 p.m. at the Knolls Clubhouse, 3400 E Geddes Dr. Centennial, CO 80122. They will go over everything in that class. The Meet Manager is exempt, meaning it fulfills all your family’s volunteer requirements. Please let us know if you are interested in the position or have any questions.

Parent Rep- The Parent rep is the liaison between the parents and coaches. We handle things on the back end to make sure the season runs smoothly. It is not as scary or time-consuming as you would think. We have multiple Parent Reps, so you are not handling things on your own. We have also established event coordinators who put our different events together. The previous Parent Reps did a fantastic job of breaking up the responsibilities and spreading them around to others for help. We would love to get someone in early in the season so you can observe and learn the ropes. This is a two-year commitment. Although it is a bigger commitment than some of the other jobs, it is very rewarding to see your hard work pay off with a successful season. The Parent Rep is exempt, meaning it fulfills all of your family’s volunteer requirements during the years you serve.

Co-Treasurer- Our lovely Treasurer will be wrapping up her involvement in the role at the end of this summer. If you are good with Accounting/Bookkeeping/Budgets, this would be a great position for you. You will monitor all money in and money out of our bank account, as well as reimbursements. This position is exempt, meaning it fulfills all your family’s requirements, and the work can be done from home on your own time. Melissa will go over everything with you and get you up to speed so you can take over next year.

Ribbons- This is another great role for anyone who would like to do most of their volunteer hours from home. After each meet you will receive a list of everyone needing a ribbon. You will need access to a printer to print the labels. Once the labels are printed, you simply stick them to the back of the ribbons, bring them to the pool, and put them in the file folders for the kids to find. Please let me know if you are interested in this position. The Ribbons position is also exempt, and will fulfill your family’s volunteer requirements.

Big Fish/Little Fish Coordinator- We need someone to pair up the Big Fish with Little Fish. Last year, we gave our BF/LF specific tasks to complete each week. Our goal is to move away from buying your BF/LF stuff and instead spend actual quality time getting to know each other. We want our BF to be a role model for the LF and show them what it means to be a Franklin Fish. You will need to come up with different tasks for them to do and send an email out to all participants each week before our Meets. This position is not exempt; however, it will fulfill four of your family’s ten volunteer points.

Stroke Judge- We are always in need of parents who would like to be a stroke judge. Rocky Mountain Swim League has developed training to help you feel comfortable and confident as a stroke judge. You can shadow one of our seasoned judges to learn as well. While stroke judges are not exempt, you will receive one volunteer point for participating in the online training program, and each shift is worth two points. If you are interested, please let me know.

Finally, we were approached by the Make-A-Wish foundation to see if we would like to hold a fundraiser. We have decided to participate by holding a Swim-A-Thon. We were told three children in the Littleton/Centennial area are waiting for their wishes to be granted. This fundraiser will be a valuable experience for our Ben Franklin Fish to work together to help a fellow child in need. We are excited to add this to the fun events we do. There will be much more information to come, but I wanted to put this on your radar now.

We are very excited to have another fun, successful season. Registration opens on April 15th at 9:00 am.

We look forward to seeing you all around the pool very soon!
