Call for Parent Reps

Hello parents,

We need parent reps! As you know, our team runs on volunteers. We are able to run meets and put on social events because you all contribute your time & energy to make them happen. To help organize this volunteer force, we have parent reps. They are the organizational glue that helps tie everything together.

The Role

Every year, we bring on a new parent rep so we can keep this team running. This is a two-year role where you learn the ropes the first year and, in the second year, you’ll help teach the new incoming parent rep. This means we always have two parent reps every year: a junior & a senior parent rep.

Currently, we only have one parent rep. That’s me. You may have seen Angie helping out a ton but she’s already completed her two years. She’s not a parent rep. She’s just an awesome person.

The Ask

We are in need of a junior parent rep for the rest of this season! You’ll learn the ropes and help organize the team. You’ll then take over as senior parent rep next year. We put out a call for a parent rep earlier this year but we haven’t had anyone accept the role yet.

You don’t need to have been with the team for a certain number of seasons. I started as parent rep last year and that was only my second year on the team.

Responsibilities

A big focus in organizing this season has been to simplify the parent rep job. Angie and I have delegated most of the responsibilities to “coordinator” roles such as Concessions Coordinator, Social Event Coordinator, etc. That’s been working great and thank you to those individuals for stepping up!

The primary job of a parent rep is to act as a liaison between South Suburban, the league, coaches, & parents. This mostly entails sending emails and checking in with coordinators. If you’re good at organizing and communicating information, this is a good job for you.

What You Get

Franklin Fish is a unique team. Unlike most of the other teams in the league, we are not a neighborhood pool. While most of our swimmers are from Littleton & Centennial, we also have members from Englewood, Highlands Ranch, & Cherry Hills Village. It’s an eclectic & diverse community that we have and I think it’s a great group of people.

In being a parent rep, you have a leading role in directing the team and community around it. You’ll set the tone for how we welcome new people and you’ll help run a team that has encouraged so many kids to love to swim. It’s a great feeling to see kids having fun, making friends, and improving themselves at practice & meets and know that you helped make that happen.

If you are interested in stepping up as a parent rep, please email me and let me know. I’m happy to talk about any questions or concerns you might have.

-Ben
