Hampden Heights Meet Tomorrow

Franklin Fish!

It seems like we only just started practices and we’re already having our first meet tomorrow against Hampden Heights (HTS)!

Weather

For some reason, we always have bad weather when we swim at Hampden Heights and tomorrow is no exception. As of right now, the meet is still on. If we cancel or postpone, it will be in the morning and we will send an email and app notification as soon as we know. Please download the SwimTopia app to get these notifications.

When you come to the meet, please bring layers and blankets and extra towels! It’s expected to be 55º and that feels downright frigid when you’re standing next to a pool. You may also want to bring a poncho or umbrella in case it rains.

Arrival

The pool is located at: 3311 S Dayton St, Denver, CO 80231

You can park in the parking lot if there is space. Otherwise, park on the nearby streets. You can set up tents/chairs in the grass to the left when you enter the pool area.

There is a sand pit & volleyball net in our set up area. Please do not let kids play in the sand or pull on the net.

Code of Conduct

These meets are meant to be fun but sometimes competitions get heated. Nearly everyone at the meet is a volunteer and we are all trying our best. If you have an issue with anything at the meet, please come find me.

Under no circumstances should you yell at a coach, stroke judge, heater, timer, starter, etc. I will not hesitate to eject you from the meet. But let’s not do that. Let’s have fun!

Theme

Our theme for this meet is tie-dye! Come show off your shirts and towels that you made at tie-dye night earlier this week.

Big Fish Little Fish

If you’re a Big Fish, you can make a card to help encourage your Little Fish partner or bring a treat. Check the match-up list and email the parent of the Little Fish to make sure the treat is appropriate (e.g. nut allergies).

Or, you can just be a friend to your Little Fish! Many of them are brand new to the team so help them feel welcome and cheer them on.

Scratches

If your swimmer is registered to swim but is unable to make it, please let me know ASAP. We typically use all our swimmers for relays so if we need to scratch a swimmer then that usually means that we can’t swim that relay. Give us as much notice as possible so we can find a replacement.

Heating & blocks

I know it's tempting to stay with your kid but we need to keep parents out of the heating area and away from the starting blocks. Our heating folks do a great job so just make sure you have your swimmer over to heating ahead of their events and our heaters will take care of the rest.

Concessions

Hampden Heights accepts cash & Venmo for concessions. Technology always seems to go awry so I suggest bringing cash just in case.

Timeline

  • 7:15am: Ben Franklin warm-up
  • 7:40am: All stroke judges & timers meet near starter tent
  • 7:45am: Begin sending swimmers to heating for relays.
  • 7:55am: National anthem
  • 8:00am: Meet begins!

If the air temperature is too cold, we may skip warm-ups. We’ll play it by ear in the morning.

Let’s have a great meet!

-Ben
